4th Thanksgiving

P and I look forward to this weekend every year. It's four uninterrupted days of "us" time. This year was not much different than the past three... We came home from work early on Wednesday, cooked dinner at home (a ham and bean soup and baguette), and settled in for the weekend. Thursday, Thanksgiving, we slept in, took a long, brisk (and chilly) walk on the new Rose Kennedy Greenway along the waterfront, and prepared the turkey. Six very good friends joined us for our meal, and they did most of the cooking! I only made the turkey, stuffing, and sweet potatoes. Everyone else brought the rest! We piled our plates a few inches high with JB's garlic mashed potatoes, G(K)G's homemade mac 'n' cheese, salad (a formality), cranberry chutney (yum!), and of course a few pies...

Then Friday we got up bright and early for our 4th annual Maine tree-chopping adventure! I feel like the story is getting old for our readers/friends, but not to us! The tree we chopped is perfect for our new heightened living room ceiling... and is now decorated with the big, colored (tacky!) lights and all our childhood ornaments. We love it.

I feel like we didn't do as much this year, but we definitely enjoyed our time together and our Thanksgiving with our friends, and of course our tree procuring. We look forward to Christmas with joy and thanksgiving!

Toto, I've Got a Feeling...

... we're not in Kansas anymore."
This past weekend I took my first trip to Wichita, Kansas, to my brother and his family's new home. Kansas was probably exactly what I expected! Flat, with cornfields, and a lot of development everywhere. It was great to see my family -- my mom, step-dad, brother, sister-in-law, niece, and nephew. John and Sophie had grown so much since I last saw them at their old home in Dallas in May. We didn't do much, but it was good family time. We had a little Thanksgiving dinner, saw Bee Movie, played in their yard, and had lunch at Sophie and John's school on Monday. It makes me wish we were much closer to my family...
