Renovation

Well, after 2.5 years in our house, it's finally time to redo our kitchen! We've been day-dreaming about this since before we even moved in. This picture was taken at our inspection, sometime in late spring 2004. As you can see, it's slightly 1970s--gray laminate countertops, nice little flowerscapes on the 1970s tiles... it's time for an update. We spent four hours at the kitchen designer on Saturday and picked out our new kitchen!

We picked out light cherry cabinets in a Shaker style, butterfly green granite countertops, and a new island (as you can see, there isn't currently one). We also continued the countertop to create a little cookbook area and a bar area off to the left where the brick wall begins. We are so excited we'll be able to keep some exposed brick and also expose more of it behind where the range and hood will go.

I've picked out all *my* new appliances, too. I'm finally getting my own double oven! A baker's dream. This one actually doubles as a microwave on top, for reheating pizza and stuff like that. The best part about the whole thing is that it's not going to take very long to do. The kitchen designer/cabinet guy (let me plug MasterBrand cabinets here... my brother-in-law works for them) says three weeks to get the cabinets then another two to get the countertop. So by March we could have a finished kitchen ... Stay tuned. Posted by Picasa

Woohoo! post pics of the ongoing renovation too :) Btw, I figured out what was going on with my funky hat stripes...I was simply not pulling/adjusting/tugging the hat into shape when it was finished, plus, I was 1 stitch early when changing colors. :D

Wahoo!!! How thrilling - we'll have to plan a baking weekend once it is all complete.....I'll provide the aprons (after all, you'll need a new one to match the new kitchen)!!

Wow!! How fun, I can't wait to see it. I'm already trying to figure out what "butterfly green granite" looks like. An island is really going to make use of that nice space in the middle. take progress pictures so those of us far far away can see. Also, thanks so much for the cute b-day card you sent. Always so creative.
